THE SURVIVORS CLUB

Every second of the day, someone in America faces a crisis, whether it's a car accident, violent crime, serious illness, or financial trouble. The fascinating, hopeful answers to these questions are found in THE SURVIVORS CLUB. In the tradition of Freakonomics and The Tipping Point, this book reveals the concealed side of survival by combining astonishing true stories, gripping scientific research, and the author's adventures inside the U.S. military's elite survival schools and the government's airplane crash evacuation course.

Together with THE SURVIVORS CLUB, you can in additiondiscover your own Survivor IQ throughout a great Internet-based test called the Survivor Profiler. Developed exclusively for this book, the test analyzes your personality and generates a customized report on your top survivor strengths.

Customer rating is 5 of 5  My thoughts on The Survivor's Club   2010-09-09

Just finished The Survivors Club by Ben Sherwood. It was quite interesting and gave me pause on how I would react in a dire emergency. I found the references very well done - though I admit I didn't try to check them. An enjoyable read and information that everyone should have - have passed it onto my "young adult" children.
Customer rating is 5 of 5  Fascinating Reading   2010-08-13

Some of the stories in here are beyond incredible, but all true. I found myself time-after-time putting the book down and picturing what was going on during one of these disasters than people lived through and what happened to them during and after their amazing ordeal.

In addition to inspiring individual stories, the book is extremely thought-provoking. Are people who survive when everyone around them is dying just plain lucky? Did God intervene? Did their attitudes make the difference between life and death? Did their attention to detail or intelligence mean anything?

Where's the safest place to be if you had a heart attack? What's the best seat in an airplane, if it's going to crash? How much time do you have to escape a burning building, airplane, a car, a train? What are you odds of survival on a number of things?

There are so many topics in here, so much fascination information and so many dramatic, incredible stories of survival, you spend hours just shaking your head in amazement reading this book.

My voracious reading habits focus on an obsession with non-fiction survivor accounts. There are many excellent books written about true heroes - both historical and current, and accounts of unimaginable circumstances from which people survive.

I count The Surviors Club amongst them - in fact, at the top of the list. Most tell the story of a survival, but not only does Sherwood accomplish that, with mulitple accounts, he offers a valid analysis of why and how it was accomplished. If nothing else, I feel stronger and more able to be counted as a survivor should an unknown situation present itself in my future.

Customer rating is 2 of 5  Little Info Here Should Be New to Readers   2010-08-04
By Donna Goldman (South Florida)
I don't understand all the 5 star ratings for this rather ordinary and unremarkable book. Sure it contains good information but only if you haven't been paying attention to may others who have previously provided the same information in a multitude of forms (e.g. books, TV, radio). The only good thing about this book was the very clever title and cover.
